Book first published in 1976. Edited by Michael Colmer. 'Calendar Girls' was the UK title. The edition for USA and Canada was called 'Glamour Calendar Art'. The edition I have scanned took its cover photograph from the photo on page 81. Internet searches suggest that other editions used the photos on pages 69 and 76.

The US title is perhaps more accurate, as, although an interest in feminine beauty is an obvious reason for buying the book, the text and selection did rather emphasize the art and production side of glamour calendars, as well as their origins and role as marketing tools. And, while all of the artists and photographers are named, few of the models are (fully) named.

The book is 144 pages long, and has photographs on the front and back covers. The book comprises three parts: pages 1-15 of text; pages 17-59 of non-photographic pictures (such as drawings, pastels, and oil paintings); and pages 60-144 of photographs.

The earliest art works, from the 1910s through to the 1930s, look incredibly modest and innocent when compared with the later photographic works. This post takes us from the front cover to page 81, so taking us into the later section dealing with photographic calendars.

The book format is just larger both in length and width than standard A4 scanner glasses, so good results require stitching. Because there are always considerable margins around the photos, I have got reasonable results stitching two scans. It may be possible to improve the quality stitching by four scans. I may try that, but did not want to delay posting in the impossible pursuit of perfection.
